How it all started Part 1

When Jeff and Brian (our web designers) asked me to start blogging, I thought it would be so easy because after all I always have so much to say. But I just didn’t know where to begin. Yun (one of our managers), suggested that I start from the beginning, as in “how” and “why” I became a stylist.

So here it is.

My sister Susan and I.

I think my interest in hair started when my older sister Susan (who has thick curly hair) was interested in experimenting with a perm and decided that she should try it on me first. Needless to say, it was terrible. My hair was dry, brittle, and unevenly kinky afterwards. I had to make a quick trip to the barber’s which was not my favorite thing to do at that time as I liked wearing my hair long.

From the age of 12, I wore my hair down to my shoulders which of course irritated my parents to no end. This was the 60’s of course and they lost that battle.

But I was always interested in art and had taken painting and sculpture classes. My father was a jeweler and always took pride in his creations. I went to Beauty School and discovered that I loved cutting hair. I had gone to City College majoring in Psychology and was planning to take my MSW because my other aspiration was to become a Psychotherapist. But instead I opened my own hair salon and almost 29 years later here I am. As I do my sculptured haircuts I get to have a session with each of my clients.

What could be better?
